Supplemental Security Income (SSI) helps eligible seniors, disabled people, and blind people meet their basic needs and keep their quality of life stable by giving them money. A little over 4.4 million people rely on it to pay their daily costs.

If you get Supplemental Security Income (SSI), you should know when your benefits are due this month so you can plan your budget well. You can plan your monthly costs and make sure you have enough money to get through the month if you know when you can expect to get your benefits.

SSI Payment Distribution Schedule

Every month on the first, SSI funds are sent out automatically. The same things will happen unless the 1st happens on a weekend or a holiday. The first day of April 2024 is a Monday. As a result, the SSI funds will be sent out on April 1, 2024, Monday.

Recipients Since Before May 1997: Beneficiaries receiving SSI payments since before May 1997 or those receiving Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) will receive their payments on the same day, April 1, for this month.

Steps to Follow if SSI Payment is Delayed

  1. Initial Waiting Period: If your payment does not appear on April 1st, the SSA suggests waiting for three mailing days. This period allows for any minor delays in the processing or delivery of payments.
  2. Check With Your Bank: After waiting for three days, visit your bank or check online to confirm there hasn’t been an issue on their end that could delay the deposit.
  3. Contact SSA: If your bank reports no issues and the payment is still missing, you should contact the Social Security Administration directly. They can provide specific information related to your account.
  4. Visit Local SSA Office: As a last resort, visiting your local Social Security office can help resolve issues more directly.

How to Apply for SSI?

The online site run by the Social Security Administration (SSA) is the best and easiest way to apply for SSI. You can make an appointment to apply over the phone or in person at a nearby Social Security office if you don’t want to do it online.

The form asks for a lot of information about you and your family, like whether you are married, the names and Social Security numbers of your spouse and children, your bank information for direct payment, and information about your medical condition and work history.

You need to send in your birth papers, proof of citizenship or legal residency, and financial records along with your application. The SSA will check your documents and details after you send them in.
